I remember when I first heard the term, "business model." It sounded like something reserved for only really smart people with masters degrees in business.

A few Google searches confirmed my fear: a business model is apparently a really long document in small Times New Roman font that uses fancy words and acronyms to describe concepts I've never even heard of before.

However, when I started my third business, Video Creators, I quickly found that I needed...

• Some way of understanding how all the moving parts of my business worked together and generated revenue.
• A way to test my new ideas and see how they may or may not be profitable.
• Something to show me why my business was struggling and what to do about it.

That's when someone introduced me to the book, Business Canvas Generation, and it changed everything for me.

Unlike most other boring business books, this one was mostly a lot big pictures with colorful fonts, charts, and practical examples. I finally understood what a business model was and how to use it to grow my creator business without needing to spend a crazy amount of time getting an M.B.A. or writing long documents. I could do it all visually on just one sheet.

Since then, I've coached many other creators to use the Business Model Canvas. In fact, it's one of the first things I often tackle with new creators I coach because it often unlocks new "ahh-ha" moments when creators finally understand how their business actually works instead of just how they assume it works.
