Earlier this year I blogged about a site called vixy.net, a tool I used to download YouTube videos in various different formats to use for teaching purposes. Unfortunately, many of the same problems that plagued vixy.net still continue today: slow convert time, sluggish download speeds, often unresponsive site and the annoying logo it added to the end of all you videos. It really hasn’t improved at all.
Since then I’ve since found another site that does the same thing, but with less problems: vconvert.net. Not only does vconvert.net have more video formats to choose from, it also downloads your YouTube video selection much quicker and does nothing to add a pesky logo to your clip.
There’s so many great video clips on YouTube that serve as great teaching aids and vconvert.net helps me save those clips to my computer in a format I can use for embedding into slideshow presentations and even burning to DVD.

another great conversion without a logo and multiple video format options is zamzar.com.

Yeah, I’ve used Zamzar.com a couple times, too, for other file converstions but it won’t automatically detect and convert a YouTube video directly from the video’s URL? You have to download the FLV from YouTube, upload it to Zamzar and then wait for the conversion to take place, right?

nope. there is a button in the first box on the left that says URL. click it and then you just paste in the youtube url (there are a couple of other sites that are supported, though i do not remember them right now), select your file type, enter your e-mail and shazam. most times my files are rendered and a link e-mailed to me within 15 minutes.

the latest version of realplayer will download any web video also!

http://www.youconvertit.com is a fantastic website I use to convert files. It’s usually pretty quick, has a plethora of file options, and can pull directly from youtube. I also use it to move any document files I have between formats as well.

vconvert now has a 40000 second wait time… hah.
and i cannot find another site that is quick. blah.

@ tim: yeah, I don’t use vconvert anymore. There’s plenty of Firefox plugins that let you download videos directly from websites now.
