I read Ezekiel 33 this morning and was pretty convicted:
Once again a message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, give your people this message: ‘When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman. When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’
“Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel. Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me. If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to tell them to change their ways, then they will die in their sins, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will have saved yourself.” Ezekiel 33:1-8 (NLT)
I’m surrounded by Christian subculture! I can probably count on one hand the number of unsaved people I regularly spend time with. That’s pathetic. This needs to change…

Tim, I’m totally with you on the whole Christian subculture thing. It’s extremely difficult to live out Jesus’ mission in my life when I rarely come into contact with the “unsaved.” The situation isn’t going to improve for me as I’m headed to seminary this fall. I really need to be more deliberate about the whole proposition.

Yeah, I need to be more intentional about getting out into the “world” and building relationships with unsaved people. It used to be that I’d witness all the time to complete strangers back when I was involved in Campus Crusades for Christ as a teenager, but now that’s kinda worn off and my bubble has narrowed. I mean, of all the people that should be sharing Christ with unbelievers, you think it should be pastors, right?

I think the same like you.
When we look back at Jesus, what has he done? For what was he called? He was called as a “Friend of sinner”, he spend a lot of time with those persons.

Good thoughts today. I think for me it is looking for those opportunities whenever I am out in the “world.” I mean, how many times do we go to the grocery store or get gas in our cars or whatever. Even in those times I get so involved in what I am going out for that a lot of times I know I have passed opportunities to witness for Christ. That passage is a good reminder that we need to be watching more also for times to let others know of Jesus Christ.

I almost wanna get a on-the-side secular job just to meet unbelievers and maybe work with some of my youth group kids. Not sure I really have time for that kind of a commitment, though. Maybe I’ll look for a Volleyball or Ultimate Frisbee league to join instead.

I am also on the journey of getting into the community and do ministry in a different light. I am looking forward to my new approach of life as I begin a new stage of my life.
July 1 can not get here quick enough.
