This week I have a very special resource for you guys. I’ve been working on this project for a while now and am excited to finally release it to you all. This ebook, titled, 130 Youth Ministry Tips and Ideas, is based on the past two years of blogging here at Life In Student Ministry.
Who this ebook is for
This ebook was written for the small-church youth leader who volunteers their time from a huge heart for students but has very little training and even feels a little lost in this whole youth ministry thing. It’s also for the new youth pastor who is just starting out in his or her first youth ministry position and needs some pointers to help get started and tips to avoid common mistakes. However, that said, there are still plenty of ideas here that will benefit even the veteran youth worker.
The inspiration for this ebook
My wife’s grandmother follows much of what I write concerning youth ministry at Life In Student Ministry and is always eager to pass it along to her church’s youth ministry volunteer team. Several times she’s asked me to pull all my content together in a book and sell it. Although I’ll never sell this ebook because I’m a strong supporter of the open source community, I finally heeded her advice and attempted to compile many of the youth ministry tips and ideas from Life In Student Ministry into one place. Youth Specialties also has a list of tips for youth workers that inspired some of these ideas.
This ebook is completely free and will always be distributed free of charge. Please download it and pass it around to your heart’s content.

Sweet book! Thanks for making this for all of us, I’m going to pass it along to the camp/retreat center Adrienne and I worked for to use with their counselors, It’s a great for new ideas and to refresh ideas and essential points to use before a summer camp week in addition to youth groups.

I’d like to see you do a blog post about how you actually made the book (or a comment response, whatever). It’s a nice clean, professional look. Maybe you’ve got some tips and tricks to making things we publish look more professional.
The content is great too!

Nice book, Tim. Now I see what you did on your day off.
Thanks. I’ll probably repost this on YouthMinistrytv.com.

By the way, did I say, “Long live open-source!”

Thanks for the resource. It’ll take awhile for my dial-up at church to download the ebook.
So, I see you had to “outdo” YS and put 130 ideas instead of 100
Or is it that you just added 30 more to their 100.
j/k

@ David: Thanks for passing it along!
@ Matt: Good idea. Maybe I’ll make a blog post about it sometime later.
@ Dennis: Yeah, you Twitter people get special access into my personal life.
@ Gavin: Hmm… I tried the link and it downloaded right away on the first try. I know my webhost is awful, though. I have lots of random problems with them. I wanna switch so badly, but that’s gonna take a LOT of work because my account hosts multiple sites.
Anyone else having trouble downloading it? If so, I’ll get a mirror download link posted.

@ Mike: Actually, out of the 130 ideas, only a couple are expanded in my ebook from YS’s list. I originally intended to just have 100 of my own ideas, but as I progressed, more and more tips kept coming to mind. And now that it’s published, I still have more ideas that I’d like to include, but I had to just stop and get it out there. Otherwise it would be my own ongoing project that never “hit the stands.” Gotta drawn the limit somewhere, ya know?

@ Tim: Yeah, I really didn’t think it was just a copy of the YS stuff. I was only kidding. I understand the “just kept adding” too. Its hard to limit your ideas and thoughts if you’ve been doing YM for any amount of time.
I apologize if I came across as rude or mean.
I had no problem downloading it. After the dial-up let me see it all, I must say it looks good. I might try to pass it on to some of my youth coaches.

@ Mike: No problem man.
You didn’t come across as rude or mean. I was just explaining a little bit of the background process for me. Hopefully it can be a good tool for you guys!

You’ve got some great ideas here. I think it is always helpful to look through lists like these. It is easy in youth ministry to get in a ‘rut’ where we do the same things over and over. Thanks again for sharing

Thanks a lot for this, TIm, and thanks for the link to in at YMX.

Tim thanks for a great and valuable resource. I have added it to my blog on the sidebar as well as a post on it.
May 7th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
You’re welcome, Chris! I noticed that you put it in your sidebar, too. You da man!
Thanks so much.
May 7th, 2007 at 12:41 pm
Tim I believe in what you’re doing and trying to do with your site so anything I can do to help.
May 7th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Wow Chris, you made me stop for a second with that comment. Thanks for your tremendous support.
May 7th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
I meant it. Your site is one of the handful I check out on a fairly regular basis. I love the networking that goes on from time to time through the comments. I would love to take my blog in this direction but we already have some great youth min sites so why start another one?
Actually I’m printing off the ebook and giving it to my leaders this week at our meeting. Seriously thanks.
May 7th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
Hey man, the more great youth ministry sites we have on the web, the better! There can never be enough. We’re all unique and take our thoughts and ministries in different directions, so everyone’s contribution to the online youth ministry community is essential. Take your blog as far as you can.

@ Ryan: Glad it can help!

Truly a reference guide for every youth minister of today.

Hi Tim,
The 130-Tips ebook is really helpful. Very fundamental which sometimes most of us forgets.
Tnx a lot.
